Meet the team

Leaders. Mentors. Coaches.

Stephanie Avery

  • Steph Avery began her journey with basketball at the age of 8, playing for various organizations including Transway and CANUSA games throughout her years leading up to University.  Spending every moment she could in a gym,  she realized what a profound impact competitive sports has on a young athlete. She began coaching house league, developing 5-6 yrs old coed players. Since that time, she has grown into a dedicated and passionate rep basketball coach who is a firm believer in fundamentals, teamwork, and discipline.  In KWC Evolution's first year, she proudly focused on developing players new to the game, while also fostering huge growth and athletic excellence with our competitive team in the Spring Season.

Her larger organizational vision is to use her skillset to create a basketball club that inspires greatness, builds character, and supports young players in high pressure, competitive environments. She fosters positive team play, sportsmanship, and constantly encourages her athletes to compare themselves to no one, rather grow into their own unique potential.

Off the court, Steph is a mom, a professional, and a wife who is committed to mentoring young athletes and encouraging them to pursue excellence in basketball and inspire the next generation of athletes both on and off the court.

Emilie Caron

  • Hi, I'm Emilie, a graduate student in Psychology at the University of Waterloo. I previously studied Sports Studies and Psychology at Bishop’s University in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Basketball was a big part of my childhood, and at 15, I began teaching the sport to children aged 5–12 with the newly formed Panthers of Rosemère. By 17, I began coaching, both as head and assistant coach. Over the years, I coached athletes (aged 10–17) on AA and AAA teams. I'm passionate about building community through sport and creating inclusive, collaborative environments that promote communication and curiosity. With KWC Evolution, my goal is to support every child, coach, and family by joining my background in sport with my expertise in psychology to help each of us grow in skill, confidence, and character.

Edison Basanande

  • I’m a first generation Canadian who fell in love with basketball almost immediately upon arrival. Basketball was always my passion but, unfortunately I was never able to play on a team. So street ball became my joy. There I learnt many life lessons that helped mold me today. The biggest lesson was mental toughness.

Though I was not privy to organized sports, as a father of 3 I made sure to provide my kids with the opportunity to develop, compete all while having fun!

I understand when done right the  benefits that competitive sports can have on children athletes' success especially in those teenage years leading to adulthood.

At KWC Evolution I have witnessed athletes from diverse backgrounds and economical classes find that they have more in common than different. It brings me joy that the passion for basketball can bring people together organically.

In academia, business and life we are always striving to be high performers and elevate our lives and others around us. I have found what’s helped me was resilience, life-long learning, hardwork, discipline and mental models. I truly believe well organized sports can be the best avenue to teach leadership, teamwork, commitment and process to achieve success. It is our passion to provide as many  athletes access to resources that will help them reach their full potential and push for peak performance.

Our goal is to help shape great athletes but most importantly amazing human beings.

IT’S WHO’S IN YOUR CORNER THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE.
